Comic Share Program

Since stories have the power to spark imagination and promote learning, I launched the Comic Share Program. Through this initiative, I introduce students to age-appropriate, non-violent comics via fun and interactive reading sessions. Comics are more than entertainment. They are a door to literacy, creativity, academic success, and a lifelong love of reading.
I host multiple Comic Share reading sessions at local libraries. These events bring children together to explore engaging stories through picture-driven methods. I also share with these students a vibrant dictionary that I wrote and illustrated titled One Word at a Time: An Illustrated Children’s Dictionary. As a foundation and extension of the Comic Share Program, I researched and wrote Beyond the Panels: Comics as Tools for Learning. I am honored that it was published by The Center for Open Science Research. This paper explores how comics have evolved from entertainment into powerful learning aids. It also highlights future research opportunities, such as creating comics to improve comprehension and fostering collaboration in classrooms. You can read the full paper here:

Moreover, I recognize that building strong reading habits takes a community. That is why I partner with librarians and educators to reach more students and bring comics into learning spaces. I also lead discussions with parents about how comics can improve comprehension and critical thinking. Together, we can show kids that reading is not just something they have to do – it is something they will want to do. In the process, it can transform their lives. After all, readers are leaders!
